Easy Ways To Focus On Self-Care As A Busy Mom

We all know that self-care as a busy mom is incredibly challenging. You are limited on time, you are tired, and on some days, you barely have time to eat a proper meal. It can be very hard to find time to add self-care into your daily routine. Most of us know that we should be practicing self-care, but how on earth do we prioritize it when we have loads of laundry to do, dishes to clean, and floors to sweep and mop? Self-care is something that you have to intentionally make time for, but I truly believe that making time to focus on it is essential because it not only affects your life, but your entire families lives, as well.

We know how important it is to take care of ourselves. You wouldn’t skip a doctor appointment, would you? So, don’t skip self-care either, because it is just as important, if not more important since our mental health depends on it. When we focus on self-care and make sure that our mental health is functioning as best as it can, it overflows onto our children. We are more patient, more loving, and more joyful as individuals, parents, and spouses. However, knowing that you should do it because of the benefits and actually taking action and doing it are completely different.

Like I mentioned above, you have to be intentional with your time. You have to set aside five minutes here and an hour there every single day to make yourself focus on self-care as a busy mom. When you’re able to set aside that important time for yourself, here are a few easy ways to focus on self-care that you can incorporate into your everyday routine:

Do Something You Love

I try my very best to do something that I love every single day, no matter if it is big or small. For example, I love going to a yoga class or practicing at home, so if I get a chance to stretch and do a few poses, I am a happy camper. Think about what you really love and what will fill your glass more than half full and then make it happen each day. Maybe this is a bubble bath, a slow morning, or a cup of tea on the back porch while watching the sunset. Either way, schedule out time to add something that you love in everyday.

Nutrition

I know that when you think of self-care, you normally picture massages, bubble baths, and pedicures, but food and nutrition is 100% a form of self-care. Why? There are many reasons. Food has the potential to fuel us for the day (which affects our performance at work and with our kids), improve our mood, and prevent illness. Feed Your Spark says, “Eating in of itself is one of the core components to self-care because it literally is nurturing our bodies to exist. We can’t live very long without enough food or water. This leads me to a thought that has been on my mind lately: eating is a form of self-care, and what, when, and how much we eat can play a role in how we feel and show up to life.”

Release All Negativity

Having a negative mindset is one of the worst things that a mom can have. It not only affects you, as a mom, but it also affects your children, as well. It brings down the mood and also teaches them to look at life with a “glass half empty” perspective, which is never good. If you are having trouble releasing negativity from your life on your own, I see absolutely no shame in talking with someone - you never know how much a counselor can truly help until you experience it for yourself. An unbiased counselor like the ones at Ray of Hope Counseling Services can help you pinpoint why you are holding on to that negativity (the most important step!), how you can remove it from your life, and how to start thinking with a really positive mindset going forward.

Ray of Hope Counseling services has seven locations all over Georgia and their counselors and psychotherapists are committed to helping individuals feel better. In addition to their seven locations, they also offer online counseling, which is great for people that are extremely busy, or do not want to take the time to sit in a waiting room. Ray of Hope Counseling Services is there to help you understand the challenges in your life and will help you find the most effective approach or treatment for you. If you are struggling in your day to day life, I would highly recommend talking with someone at Ray of Hope Counseling Services to see if they can help you. So many people struggle with negative thoughts, but luckily, you can and will change your mindset if you are ready to work on it!

Be Active Each Day

Like I mentioned above, I really love a good yoga session, maybe paired with some meditation. This clears my mind, helps me start the day with a fresh, positive mindset, and helps me stay in shape, as well. Working out is essential for busy moms that want to focus on self-care. Plus, it is a great way to teach your children that healthy eating + working out is very important and when you work hard at it, you will see great results and live a healthy and happy lifestyle.
